Government Support at International LEvel

The world economy witnessed growth during the 20th century. Also the gap
between the rich and poor widened. Environment and ecology have taken a
beating. The corruption too has taken its toll. The ethics, morals and human
values have been the victims of business competition. The situation further
deteriorated with the globalization of economy during the last quarter of 20th
century. The human values have been relegated to secondary position.

The United Nation Organization has adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Right during
the year 1948. The ILOs Philadelphia declaration of 1944 was the fore runner.
This declaration embodies:

·      Labour is not a commodity.

·      Freedom of expression and of association is essential to sustained progress.

·      Poverty anywhere constitutes a danger to prosperity everywhere.

All human beings, irrespective of race, creed or sex, have the right to pursue both
their material well-being and their spiritual development in conditions of
freedom and dignity, of economic security and equal opportunity.
