What is an SGPA to Percentage Calculator?

This helps students understand their academic score in percentage format, which is often needed for job applications, further studies, or exam forms.

What is SGPA?

SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average) is a numerical value that represents a student’s average performance in a particular semester. It is calculated based on the grades obtained in all subjects of that semester and the credits assigned to each subject. The SGPA scale usually ranges from 0 to 10, with 10 being the highest.

Elements of SGPA To calculate SGPA accurately, you need to understand a few key components of SGPA like grade points, credits, weightage, etc.

Grade Points: Numeric value assigned to your subject performance
Credit Hours: Weight of each subject based on teaching hours
Subject-wise Weightage: Subjects with higher credits influence SGPA more
Total Credit Sum: Sum of all subject credits in the semester
Weighted Grade Total:Grade point × credit for each subject

How to Calculate SGPA?

To calculate SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average), follow these steps:

  1. Multiply the grade points earned in each subject by their respective credit points.
  2. Add the total grade points.
  3. Divide the sum by the total credit points.

Example of SGPA Calculation

Example 1

Subject Credit points Grade points Weighted Grade Points
Math 3 7 3 x 7 = 21
Science 4 8 4 x 8 = 32
English 4 9 4 x 9 = 36

Weighted Grade Points (Grade Point x Credit) = (3 x 7) + (4 x 8) + (4 x 9) = 89
Total Credits = 3 + 4 + 4 = 11
SGPA = Total Weighted Grade Points / Total Credits
SGPA = 89 / 11
SGPA = 8.09

Formula to Convert SGPA to Percentage
