Management Both Science and Art

Both views are supported by extensive body of literature on management. Thus, it can be said that
management involves the aspects of both science and art. The discipline of art
is backed by science because science is basic knowledge of that art.



     Â·      Management as science implies systematic methods of enquiry and analysis of information to take critical business decisions. As Art it involves an organized body of theoretical knowledge.

·      Management as science consist principles based on repeated experiments that can be applied everywhere. As Art it considers management as a skill that comes from an individual’s personality and ability.

·      Management as science involves rational and objective way for determining an appropriate course of action for specific situations. As Art it relies on the social and political environment and uses their own body of knowledge to determine a course of action for specific situations. 

·      Management as science follows general principles and theories as well as form and test hypotheses to solve a particular problem. As Art it depends on personal skills, practice and creativity to solve a particular problem.

·      Management as science appears more as behavioral science rather than natural science. As Art it involves practices that change with changes in the business environment.
