UGC Releases List of Fake Universities [Critical Alert for Students and Parents]

UGC’s State-wise List of Fake Universities

In a letter issued by the UGC to the State Government’s Department of Higher Education of India, it was highlighted that several institutions have been identified as fake universities. These institutions are not recognized under Section 2(f) or Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, and are engaged in the business of conferring degrees without proper authorization. 
This list of 21 institutions cheat students by awarding invalid degrees, leading to significant concerns about the integrity of higher education. Here’s the list of UGC’s state wise list of fake universities.

Steps to Verify University Authenticity

Recognizing fake universities is of utmost importance to avoid getting fake degrees, wasting time, money and, losing main opportunities in life. Here’s a list of steps to verify the authenticity of a university.

Step 1: Visit the UGC Website 

Go to the UGC website [https://www.ugc.gov.in/]. Check the Higher Education Institutions(HEIs) section. See if your dream institution is listed in the list.

Step 2: Check Accreditation 

Visit the university website and check whether the institution is accredited by the appropriate educational bodies. Accreditation is a process of recognizing a university's quality and legitimacy. It also ensures that the institution meets certain educational standards.
