The MCA course is designed to provide in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge of computer software applications along with soft skills. It covers a wide range of subjects like database management, network security, programming languages, and software engineering. 

The duration of the Ignou MCA course is about 2 years. The university provides a two-year extension if a candidate fails to complete the course within a set duration. That means a candidate can take a maximum of four years to complete the MCA program. 

The mode of the MCA course is Open Distance Learning. In other words, it is an online course. All the classes and exams will be conducted virtually. This virtual mode makes the learning process flexible and engaging. The course is divided into four semesters. The first semester is mainly focused on providing theoretical knowledge first. As you go from the first semester to the last semester, the frequency of practicals will increase to prepare you for the job market. 

Ignou MCA Admission Process -  

Ignou’s admission process for the MCA program is a completely online process. Here are the step-by-step instructions for the same - 

Step 1 - Visit the official website of the college and hit the “”Apply” button to get yourself registered

Step 2 - Fill all the required information in the given registration form and get login credentials.

Step 3 - Now, use login credentials to re-login to the portal.
               Click on the admission form and enter all the relevant information.
               Scan and upload the required documents

Step 4 - Now, submit the application form to get the payment link

Step 5 - Pay the fees through the ways available on the website.
               Download the receipt of your payment.

If you are applying for the first time, you must submit the registration form first. You can get this form on Ignou’s website. Then you have to pay INR 300/- as a registration fee. Remember, you can cancel the admission, but you won’t get your registration fee refunded.

If you are facing any issues during the online admission process, you can also apply through offline registration. To do this, you have to visit the regional centre nearest to Ignou. You will get the necessary guidance to complete the admission process at the centre.

Eligibility Criteria for Ignou MCA Course - 

The Ignou has set some eligibility criteria for all the MCA candidates. Make sure you fit into the criteria before applying for admission.

  • Should have completed a BCA or Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science Engineering or Other equivalent degree
  • 50% marks in final graduation exams (45% for SC & ST candidates)
  • No work experience is required

Candidates need to pay around INR 12,500 per semester as a fee to complete the course from Ignou. As per the official site of the University, the total fee for the complete MCA program is INR 50,800.
